CV-22 visits Malmstrom

Crew members from the 40th Helicopter Squadron and Doss Aviation take an up-close look at the Osprey. AFSPC helos, crews support JTF Katrina

COLUMBUS AFB, Miss. – Air Force Space Command deployed several UH-1N helicopters and crews to Columbus AFB, in support of Hurricane Katrina operations. The Helos came from F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo.; Malmstrom AFB, Mont.; Minot AFB, N.D., and Vandenberg AFB, Calif. The crews fly operations day and night as the 620th Air Expeditionary Squadron to provide rescue, recovery and relief efforts. As of Sept. 6, the 620th has flown 22 sorties, registered 1 save and delivered 14,050 pounds of food, water and medical supplies to displaced Americans in Mississippi. This is the first time Air Force Space Command has deployed helicopters outside their day-to-day missile field operations. (Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Molly A. Gilliam)

620th AES forms in response to JTF Katrina

COLUMBUS AFB, Miss. – Major LeRoy Reynolds, 341st Space Wing chief of flight safety at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont., performs final checks before boarding his aircraft here. The helicopter belongs to Vandenberg AFB, Calif., but 620th Air Expeditionary Squadron crews, comprised of members from five Air Force Space Command bases, are working as one team, mixing and matching flight engineers, pilots and helicopters.
