Thirty-five crew members of the USS GONZALEZ, alongside 12 Georgian Special Forces members, volunteered time and energy to provide repair work and maintenance at the Makhinjauri Children's House outside of Batumi. The military teams painted 3 rooms, chopped and stored firewood and performed much-needed electrical repairs. The crew's community service day underscored not only strong military-to-military ties, but also the vibrant people-to-people connection between the U.S and Georgia. The children were delighted to meet and play games with the sailors, and ten of the five-year-olds were invited onboard to visit the ship. (Photo courtesy Us. Department of State)
