GSA Commissions One-of-a-Kind Interactive Art Installation

Video Length: 1 minute 25 seconds A motion-triggered mural now graces an exterior wall of the U.S. Custom House in Denver, Colo., stimulating all five senses of passers-by. The art, entitled Imagine, is the work of local artist Darrell Anderson, who was selected to create the first piece for the custom house. The 241-foot-long mural’s lights and sounds are triggered by hidden sensors that operate around-the-clock along the wall. What makes this artwork so unique is that it pushes the viewer out of the role of observer by creating physical interaction with the installation. “The federal government values the significant contributions that artists make to social and cultural life," said Regional Administrator Susan B. Damour, of GSA's Rocky Mountain Region, which includes Denver. "And, there is no other patron of the arts that can match the investment made by the federal government to support artists in their creative endeavors." For generations, GSA’s Art in Architecture Program has commissioned works of art that express the vision, leadership, and commitment of the U.S. government in serving the public and expressing American values.
