GSA Moves Historic Building to Make Way for Courthouse

16x9 video

Building Move Makes History

Video Length: 1 minute 48 seconds

When GSA planners chose the location of a new federal courthouse in Salt Lake City, they faced a tough decision. The historically significant Odd Fellows Hall would have to be moved or torn down. GSA is committed to preserving historic structures, so when local groups asked to preserve this one, GSA put its experts and resources to work.

A company was called in to move the 100-year-old building to a new site across the street. It was a monumental undertaking - a first of its kind for GSA. Architects, engineers, and construction teams joined forces to lift, spin, and relocate the Odd Fellows Hall. There was some trouble, and everything didn't go as planned, but the move was ultimately successful. Watch what happened here.
