Fact Sheet: Signing Ceremony with the President of Mongolia
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke and Mongolia’s President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj today announced agreements to expand cooperation on trade and economic issues, and support Mongolia’s aviation sector with technical assistance and training programs at a Blair House ceremony. Below is the fact sheet of the agreements:
• The United States Department of Commerce and The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia Memorandum of Understanding on Trade and Economic Cooperation: The U.S. Department of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia have agreed that strengthening cooperation, exchanges, and technical assistance; sharing experiences in implementing a strong commercial legal regime; and promoting trade and investment are imperative for further development of the bilateral trade and economic relationship. In furtherance of the shared goal to strengthen that bilateral relationship, the U.S. Department of Commerce and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the United States Department of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia.
• The United States Trade and Development Agency and MIAT Mongolian Airlines Memorandum
of
Understanding for
Aviation
Management
Training
Technical
Assistance.
To continue support for the development of Mongolia’s aviation sector, the
United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding
with
MIAT
Mongolian
Airlines
with
the
intention to fund
technical
assistance for an Airline Executive
Management Training program. The program will
include training on airline business management, strategic planning and professional
development. In addition to promoting beneficial
trade and cooperation, this program will build upon previous
USTDA-funded projects supporting
Mongolia’s aviation sector. Thiswill be USTDA’s fifth aviation project in Mongolia
since 2002, including
the
development of a strategic
expansion plan
for commercial
air service
and technical assistance in air traffic management and
aviation
safety.
• Memorandum of Agreement between the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal
Aviation Administration and the Civil Aviation Administration of
Mongolia:
The U.S. Department
of Transportation’s
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the
Civil Aviation Authority of Mongolia intend to develop civil
aeronautics and enhance aviation
safety through
technical assistance and
training under a
Memorandum of Agreement
(MOA) signed
on June 16, 2011. This formal bilateral
relationship,
the first of its kind between
the two countries, is an
opportunity to provide the highest level
of aviation safety and
improve system
efficiency in Mongolia. Aviation is an
important element
of the Government
of Mongolia’s efforts
to broaden ties
within the region and around the
world for the landlocked country. Under the MOA,
the FAA may provide technical
and
managerial expertise
to assist Mongolia in
developing,
modernizing, operating and
maintaining its civil aviation infrastructure, standards,
procedures,
policies, training and equipment.
• Boeing Airplane Sales: Boeing and MIAT Airlines, the national airline of Mongolia, will be commemorating a purchase agreement for MIAT’s purchase of one 767-300ER and two 737-800 aircraft, valued at $245 million at list prices. This marks the first direct purchase of Boeing aircraft by MIAT and also marks the first time in more than two decades that MIAT Mongolian Airlines is going to extend its route network by purchasing the Boeing airplanes instead of leasing them. Headquartered at Chingis Khaan International Airport in Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar, MIAT Mongolian Airlines is the country’s national flag carrier. It has been in business more than 55 years.
