Debate Response on Energy: Romney Flubs Public Lands Energy Production

Issues: Clean Energy, Oil

WASHINGTON (October 3, 2012) – Tonight, Governor Romney once again flubbed his statistics on President Obama’s energy record. Governor Romney said energy production was down on public lands, but the reality is that on “government land” onshore, oil production is higher than at any point under the Bush administration going back to 2003, according to the Energy Information Administration. Overall, oil production is higher than under the last three years of the bush admin. Under President Obama, his administration has approved more permits to drill and industry has begun drilling more wells during the first three years of the Obama term than under the first three years of the Bush administration.

“As usual, Mitt Romney isn't worried about percentages, especially when he's backing big donors from Big Oil,” said Rep. Ed Markey, the top Democrat on the Natural Resources Committee.
