Domestic Violence Awareness Month -- October 2012

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is an annual observance that generates awareness of domestic violence as a serious public health issue and the resources available to address it. It is also an opportunity to highlight the range of services that the Department of Defense Family Advocacy Program (FAP) provides to military service members and their families that help them build healthy relationship skills.

In any relationship, it's normal to get angry or frustrated. It's typical to disagree, argue and occasionally hurt each other's feelings. Learning to navigate challenges and communicate effectively is not easy and often takes practice and patience. FAP is available for support during every stage of your relationship. And FAP is a critical resource if you are worried problems with your partner may lead to abuse, or already have.

Use this page to find resources to help prevent domestic abuse, information about how to get help when abuse has occurred, and promotional materials to help spread the word about this important topic.

If you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship, find out more about available support and resources. To speak with a Department of Defense Victim Advocate, contact Military OneSource at 1-800-342-9647, or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
