Description: This course is designed to transform newly assigned/appointed individuals with little or no security administration experience into fully functional/qualified DoD SCI Security Officials able to perform their assigned duties with little to no oversight. We will prepare DoD SCI Security Officials to administer effective security programs within DoD organizations while informing them of new or updated policies and procedures.  Upon completion of training DoD SCI Security Officials should be able to competently perform security administration and function within their organizations.  Taught in an interactive environment, the course motivates students to strive to attain the most effective security program for his/her organization, while comprehending the trade-offs between security and mission accomplishment.

Length: 5 days

Target Audience: This course is open to DoD civilian, military or contractor personnel newly assigned as Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security professionals, Special Security Officer (SSO), Special Security Representative (SSR), security professionals and their alternates that are responsible for the physical planning and implementation of Sensitive Compartmented Information facilities (SCIF). This course can also be used as refresher training on SCI and SCIF management and policies.

Clearance Requirements: Secret – Student clearance eligibility access information must be documented and recent in the Joint Clearance Access Verification System (JCAVS).

Number of Students Per Course: Class Size 25-50

Prerequisites:

  • GS102.16 - Risk Management for DoD Security Programs Course
  • GS102.06 - Risk Management for DoD Security Programs (exam)
  • PS113.16 - Introduction to Personnel Security Course
  • PS113.06 - Introduction to Personnel Security (exam)

Requirements: In addition to completing the course prerequisites, you are required to be familiar with the following material:

  • ICD/ICS 705, 705.1, 705.2 (previously DCID 6/9)
  • ICD 704 & ICPG 704.1, 704.2, 704.3, 704.4, and 704.5 (previously DCID 6/4)
  • DoD 5105.21-M-1
  • SSO Definitions (select DNI and M-1 definitions used in the course)

Together with your own professional experiences, these reading should provide the basis for questioning or expanding upon lecture material. These documents are considered testable material.
