Eddie Saffarinia

Assistant Inspector General for Information Technology

 

Mr. Eddie Saffarinia was appointed as the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Assistant Inspector General (AIG) for Information Technology (IT) in February 2012. He serves as the principal advisor to the Inspector General on IT and IT security matters at the Office of Inspector General as well as the Department.

 

In his current position he is responsible for overall management of the IT program for the OIG. Prior to joining HUD, Mr. Saffarinia also served as the AIG for IT and the Chief Information Officer for the Office of the Inspector General at Department of the Interior (DOI). In addition to being an advisor to the DOI Inspector General on IT and IT security matters, Mr. Saffarinia oversaw the evaluation of the agency’s IT and information security programs. As the CIO, he provided overall management of a geographically-dispersed organization supporting hundreds of users from coast-to-coast and overseas.

 

Mr. Saffarinia has been a regular participant in government-wide committees for the management of information technology and is a member of the U.S. Government Advisory Board of the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc. (ISC)2. He oversaw evaluations of the Department’s and bureaus’ IT and information security activities, including the legislatively-mandated annual Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) review.

 

In his position with DOI, he issued more than 50 evaluation reports containing over 250 recommendations to improve effectiveness and reduce the cost of various agency programs related to IT and information security at DOI. As a result of his work, Mr. Saffarinia was nominated for the 2008 U.S. Government Information Security Leadership Award.

 

Prior to his employment at DOI, he held various management and executive positions for over twenty years with various companies proving IT services to the federal, state, and local governments. He holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from the American University and is also Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP), Federal IT Security Professional – Manager (FITSP-M), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
