    U.S. Army Alaska and the Indian Army celebrated the opening of the annual joint and bilateral training exercise Yudh Abhyas 2010 during an Oct. 31 ceremony at Buckner Physical Fitness Center on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. The purpose of the 14-day exercise is to establish and enhance relationships between the allied forces while expanding operational and cultural knowledge with a focus on peacekeeping operations.

    <b>What is it' </b> U.S. Army, Pacific's Exercise Yudh Abhyas is a regularly-scheduled bilateral exercise hosted by the Indian and U.S. Armies which allows for an exchange of knowledge between the two militaries using a U.N. peacekeeping scenario. Yudh Abhyas has been ongoing since 2004, and is designed to promote cooperation between the two militaries while sharing training, cultural exchanges, and building joint operating skills. This year Yudh Abhyas 10, scheduled for Nov. 1-14 , at Fort Richardson, Alaska, will be the Indian army's first deployment to Alaska.

  • Big Red One band tours Iraq

    Controlled Detonation, a modern rock group from the 1st Infantry Division Band, recently toured U.S. bases in Iraq, performing for troops deployed with the Enhanced Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. The band is the last Army band of its type in Iraq, and constantly tours to play popular music for deployed service members. Controlled Detonation and the eCAB, 1st Inf. Div. are both from Fort Riley, Kan., and are deployed to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn. The band's final stop on the tour was the aviation brigade's headquarters on Camp Taji, Oct. 30, where they played over three hours of hit songs for Soldiers there.

    Three Fort Bragg teams placed in their categories at the Sunday's 26th Annual Army Ten-Miler with the women's team taking first place. The men's team and the men's master team both took third place in their categories. Three Fort Bragg teams placed with the high scores, which were the sums of a team's top four runners. The women's team score was 4:21:27, the men's team was 3:46:01 and the men's masters was 4:19:83, according to the official scorer.

They are part of the first large group of personnel to in-process at Fort Bragg from Fort McPherson, Ga. Added to the 'Torch Party' that arrived in August, and the liaison team that has been here since last summer, there are now 190 Soldiers and Army civilians on the ground. About 350 personnel are expected by the end of November.

    PANJWA'I, Afghanistan - A bazaar known as an insurgent safe-haven and staging ground for attacks against Coalition forces was disrupted Oct. 25 - 26 during a clearing operation in Panjwa'i District, Kandahar Province. Afghan Commandos from 3rd Commando Kandak, along with Soldiers from Special Operations Task Force - South, found nine improvised explosive devices during the operation and were involved in two separate firefights with insurgent elements.

By the end of Nov. 2010, more than 200 members of the FORSCOM staff will be on the ground ensuring a successful arrival of the main body of the command in 2011, while also ensuring seamless mission continuity as FORSCOM provides trained and ready forces to combatant commanders, at home and abroad, through the Army Force Generation (ARFORGEN) process.
