The Office of Global Affairs (OGA) Africa Region coordinates U.S Department of Health and Human Services public health interactions with sub-Saharan African governments. OGA-Africa also aligns partners from multilateral organizations, country governments and nongovernmental organizations to work towards attaining key health objectives in Africa.

World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988.
On World AIDS Day, 2011, Dr. Nils Daulaire addressed the South African Human Sciences Research Council within the National Department of Sciences and Technology and the National Department of Social Development in Cape Town, South Africa.
