Who We Are

Democrats Abroad is the official Democratic Party arm for the 9 million Americans living outside the United States. We strive to provide Americans abroad a Democratic voice in our government and elect Democratic candidates by mobilizing the overseas vote.

Democrats Abroad has 45 country committees throughout Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. These country committees keep Americans abroad informed of their rights and help them participate in the U.S. political process. Our members live in more than 200 countries around the globe and vote in every state and Congressional district in the U.S.

Democrats Abroad is recognized as a "state" party by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and is represented on the DNC by eight voting members, as well as at the quadrennial Democratic National Convention.

Our online voter registration tool - votefromabroad.org - makes it easy to request a ballot and vote absentee from any place on the planet.

Our votes have been the margin of victory in flipping states to help win the White House, and we are working now to make sure we help win the Senate through Georgia.     Amicus Curiae Brief

    In this election cycle, part of getting out the vote also includes fighting for our votes. To aid in the fight, Democrats Abroad filed an amicus curiae brief in the Pennsylvania case, DJT for President v Boockvar, et al. That case was dismissed this weekend. Trump's lawyers are attempting an appeal in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and Democrats Abroad is delighted to have filed a slightly revised amicus brief in response. We remain committed to protecting the rights of voters abroad and ensuring our votes are counted, and are proud to be able to be part of the defense against the spurious legal cases of the Trump administration.

    Join us on the evening of Friday, December 18 for an online meeting of the Hamburg Chapter. It's hard to believe, but 2020 and the Trump administration are soon coming to an end. Good riddance to both. Let's get together online with some Glühwein and cookies to socialize and catch up, celebrate our victories, and talk about plans for the coming new year.

    Georgia Abroad Voter Assistance: December 19th

    Did you know every eligible American living abroad can vote in U.S. elections? 

    Was the last place you or your parent lived in the US the state of Georgia?

    If you are 18 on or before January 5th you are allowed to vote in the runoff election. 

    Do you have questions about how to vote? Click the chat bubble at the bottom of this screen and we can help you find the answers. 

    But we get it. Sometimes you just want to speak to live person. 

    Join us any Tuesday (noon-4pm), Thursday (6am-4pm), Saturday (6am-noon), & Sunday (12am-noon) 'till GA Senate Runoff election (all times are listed in U.S. Eastern timezone) to talk to a volunteer LIVE on Zoom about questions you have about voting from abroad.

    How is it done on Zoom? You'll come into the main room and be paired 1:1 with a volunteer into a breakout room to ensure privacy and that you can get all your questions answered. It couldn't be easier. 

    More information: The easiest way to request your ballot is at VoteFromAbroad.org. It takes just a few minutes to complete and send in your form to the US state where you last lived. The website will guide you step by step. In most cases it’s pretty simple. But if you’re new to voting abroad, or if you haven’t done it in a while, you may have additional questions. That’s why we’ll be here every Sunday until election day to help.

    If you can’t make the 'office hours', you can always email us at helpdesk@votefromabroad.org or send in your question through our online help bubble, and a volunteer will get back to you.
