RESCHEDULED: Subcommittee Hearing: Screening Partnership Program: Why is a Job-Creating, Public-Private Partnership Meeting Resistance at TSA?

On Thursday, February 16, 2012, the Committee on Homeland Security’s Subcommittee on Transportation Security continued its hearing entitled “Screening Partnership Program: Why is a Job-Creating, Public-Private Partnership Meeting Resistance at TSA?”  The Committee recessed on February 7, 2012 at 3:58 p.m. and reconvened at 1:00 p.m. in 311 Cannon House Office Building.

On Tuesday, February 7, 2012, the Committee on Homeland Security’s Subcommittee on Transportation Security will hold a hearing entitled “Screening Partnership Program: Why is a Job-Creating, Public-Private Partnership Meeting Resistance at TSA?”  The Committee will meet at 2:00 p.m. in 311 Cannon House Office Building.

Chairman Rogers on the hearing:

"The Screening Partnership Program (SPP) gives the private sector an opportunity to work with TSA, and create new jobs, by replacing federal screeners with private screeners.  So why has TSA arbitrarily decided to stop growing SPP?  This hearing will examine the root cause of TSA's resistance toward SPP, and a broken contracting process that impacts not only SPP but also other important programs.

If TSA is committed to becoming an effective counter-terror organization, it must do better – and that involves working closer with the private sector to reduce its inefficiencies and bureaucracy.  I look forward to having an open discussion with Administrator John Pistole and our other witnesses about the taxpayer dollars that are being wasted, the potential jobs lost, and TSA's plans for addressing other shortfalls as identified by Congress, the private sector, and the traveling public."
