NASIC warrior overcomes adversity; completes triathlon

BREAVERCREEK, Ohio -- Curt Barnard, a civilian assigned to the National Air and Space Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, speeds around a corner during his cycling training, Aug. 29. Barnard suffers from brachial plexus, a life-long birth injury which caused him to lose functionality in his right arm, making it difficult to control his bicycle. NASIC warrior overcomes adversity; completes triathlon

BREAVERCREEK, Ohio -- Curt Barnard, a civilian assigned to the National Air and Space Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, takes a break from his cycling training at the local 9/11 memorial, Aug. 29. Barnard recently competed in his first triathlon, a feat that was more difficult due to his disability. Barnard suffers from brachial plexus, a life-long birth injury that damaged a nerve in his shoulder causing an inability to use his right arm. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Michael J. Veloz)
