Customs Will Soon No Longer Accept Facsimiles of SEDs

May 12, 2000

Due to problems with legibility of facsimiles of SEDs and the resulting increased processing costs, the Census Bureau has instructed U.S. Customs to no longer accept facsimile copies of SEDs effective 90 days from May 4, 2000. After that date, the original SED must be forwarded to the exporting carrier prior to exportation.

For more information please see FTSR Letter No. 170, which is available on the Census Bueau website.
