Census Bureau (CENSUS) Transfers
Schedule K Maintenance
to the
Maritime Administration (MARAD)
Since the transfer of the U.S. Foreign Waterborne Transportation
Statistics Program to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps)
effective October 1, 1998, Census no longer will maintain the
Schedule K,"Classification of Foreign Ports by Geographic
Trade Area and Country" used for import and export foreign
port reporting. The Maritime Administration (MarAd), Department
of Transportation, has agreed to accept the responsibility for
maintaining and providing quarterly updates to
the Schedule K, beginning January 1999. MarAd has developed
a website containing the 1999 Schedule K and will also provide
Census with printed copies for distribution. The MarAd website
address is:
http://www.marad.dot.gov/statistics/
A hyperlink to the MarAd address is provided on the Foreign
Trade Division website at:
http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/www/schedules.html#K
For 1999 foreign port data reporting, please refer to the
MarAd website. If you are unable to locate a foreign port code
in the file, have questions about a foreign port name or wish
to request a printed version of the Schedule K, please contact:
Dorothy Adams at the Office of Statistical & Economic
Analysis, MarAd, (202) 493-0376 or via the Internet at:
DATA@marad.dot.gov
To keep abreast of new foreign ports codes or other changes,
check the MarAd website quarterly: February 1, 1999; April 1,
1999, July 1, 1999 and October 1, 1999.
