Applied Science for Informed Decision Making 

The ESP is a multidisciplinary program that is mission driven. Research topics are based on information needs in support of NEPA and other environmental laws that nurtures scientific discovery in the marine environment and social sciences while focusing on activities that address national goals related to environmental quality, economic prosperity, and sustainable development. The BOEM develops a 5-year plan which defines the regional leasing areas; this determines the geographical distribution of research topics.
