About

Office of Warrior Care Policy

The mission of the Office of Warrior Care Policy is to ensure wounded, ill, injured and transitioning Service members receive high quality care and seamless transition support through proactive leadership, responsive policy, effective oversight and interagency collaboration.

The office was established in November 2008 under the Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD P&R) within the U.S. Department of Defense. Responsibilities of the office include Recovery Care Coordination and Transition Policy.

The Recovery Coordination Program includes resources and programs such as non-medical care coordination, the Operation Warfighter internship program, the Warrior Athletic Reconditioning Program, and the National Resource Directory. Transition Policy includes oversight of the Integrated Disability Evaluation System.

The Office of Warrior Care Policy also supports the resources and programs offered by each Military Service’s wounded warrior program, and provides assistance and guidance to these programs when necessary.
