Regarding Document Transcripts

The majority of the transcripts for this website were provided courtesy of the Avalon Project at Yale Law School. These transcripts were intended to capture the substance of the document. For details of capitalization, punctuation and spacing, the National Archives recommends that readers examine the original documents. It is important to keep in mind that where documents from the 18th and early 19th centuries are concerned, individual copyists had their own style of making copies and employed a wide variety of capitalization practices. So, while variations in capitalization may exist between the originals and transcriptions, they do not affect the basic meaning of the documents
