Congressman Mike Pompeo of Kansas says he's concerned about what could happen if the Bush-era tax cuts expire, as scheduled, on Jan. 1.

The U.S. House is set to take up a bill the week of July 30 that would extend the tax rates.

Pompeo told KFDI that allowing tax rates to increase won't affect only the so-called rich.

"When (President Obama) talks about the rich, he's talking about 50,000 to 70,000 small businesses here in Kansas that won't be able to hire because they'll be paying more in federal taxes," Pompeo said.
