A Washington Park, Illinois, man was sentenced to a prison term in federal district court for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on September 24, 2012, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today.

Jermaine Jones, 28, was sentenced to 46 months in prison, 3 years' supervised release, a $100 special assessment, and a fine of $400, following his plea of guilty, on April 3, 2012, to an Indictment charging him with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The charges relate to an incident that occurred on April 4, 2011, in Washington Park, Illinois, where, following an altercation between Jones and his girlfriend, the girlfriend reported to police that Jones was in possession of a firearm. Jones was previously convicted of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon on March 30, 2009, in St. Clair County. The sentencing judge also ordered forfeiture of the firearm and twelve rounds of ammunition contained therein.

The case was investigated by members of the ATF. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen B. Clark.

The government was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott R. Paccagnini.
