BALTIMORE MAN EXILED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON ON GUN CHARGES
Baltimore, Maryland – U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett sentenced Chauncey Harris, age 42, of Baltimore, Maryland, today to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number and illegal receipt of a firearm while under indictment.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Acting Special Agent in Charge Ashan Benedict of the ATF - Baltimore Field Division; Acting Commissioner Anthony Barksdale of the Baltimore City Police Department; Baltimore City State's Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein; and Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler.
According to his plea agreement, on March 15, 2011, Baltimore City Police officers responded to a residence on Edgewood Street in Baltimore for a report of a rape, where they found Harris and a female. The report of rape was subsequently determined to be unfounded. However, officers observed a .22 caliber revolver sticking out of Harris' pants pocket and arrested him. The serial number on the revolver was previously scratched or altered, and at the time of his arrest, Harris was under indictment in Baltimore County for first degree assault.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF, Baltimore City Police Department, Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office and Maryland Attorney General's Office for their work in this investigation. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Special Assistant United States Attorney Gerald A. A. Collins, a cross designated Maryland Assistant Attorney General assigned to Exile cases, who prosecuted the case.
