Crips Member Exiled to Over 15 Years in Prison for Possessing a Loaded Gun
Baltimore, Maryland — U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz sentenced Hasan Smith, a/k/a Haison Smith
and Anthony Smith,
age 25, of Baltimore, Maryland, today to 188 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a gun and ammunition. Judge Motz enhanced Smith’s sentence upon finding that he is an armed career criminal based on three previous drug convictions.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Acting Special Agent in Charge Marino F. Vidoli of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – Baltimore Field Division; Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III of the Baltimore City Police Department; and Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein.
According to evidence presented to the court, on September 7, 2010, police officers saw Smith riding a bicycle the wrong direction down Hope Street in Baltimore, a one way street, while holding his dip
area. Smith fled on foot. Officers arrested Smith and seized a loaded .45 caliber semi–automatic pistol which Smith had thrown down while attempting to flee. Smith, who is a member of the Crips gang, was on parole at the time of his arrest. Smith had previously been convicted of a felony and was prohibited from possessing a gun and ammunition.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF, Baltimore City Police Department and Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in this investigation. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant United States Attorneys Kristi N. O’Malley and Sandra Wilkinson, who prosecuted the case.
