Pompeo Creates Web Resource for Those Seeking Drought Information

WASHINGTON, DC— An unprecedented heat wave, coupled with a severe drought, has left Kansans praying for rain and farmers and ranchers searching for answers on how to make it through the rest of the summer.  The Fourth Congressional District has been especially hard hit: the entire district has been declared a drought disaster area by both federal and state officials.

In response to the growing drought crisis, Kansas Fourth District Congressman Mike Pompeo has created a special section of his Congressional website to serve as a resource for those Kansans who are suffering in drought conditions.

The website, http://pompeo.house.gov/drought includes contact information for local Farm Service Agencies as well as contact information for the Congressman’s staff.

Congressman Pompeo issued the following video and statement encouraging those who need it to apply for assistance.  Watch the video below or by clicking HERE.

Pompeo also issued the following statement:

“There are a number of federal and state policies that change in response to these drought conditions.  For example, most of the state has been authorized by the USDA to open Conservation Reserve Program lands for emergency haying and grazing.  In addition, producers in the affected areas will be able apply for emergency Farm Service Agency loans.

“I have provided links to a number of resources on my website that I hope will be helpful if you are being negatively affected by the drought.  Since every individual situation is different, I encourage you to contact your crop insurance agent and your local Farm Service Agency office.  I would also encourage you to contact my Home Office, at (316) 262-8992, as an additional resource,” stated Pompeo.
