CITRUS COUNTY ARMED ROBBERS PLEAD GUILTY

Tampa, FL – United States Attorney Robert E. O'Neill announces that Anthony Calderon (48, Inverness) pled guilty today to two counts of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, namely armed robbery. His co-defendant, Abelardo Coimbre (52, Inverness) pled guilty to the same offenses on August 6, 2012. Calderon and Coimbre each face a mandatory minimum penalty of 32 years, up to a maximum penalty of life in federal prison.

According to the plea agreements, in early 2011, Coimbre and Calderon committed four separate armed robberies in Citrus County. The robberies included the January 28, 2011, robbery of Inverness Liquor; a robbery on February 16, 2011, of Bob's Liquor in Crystal River; the February 23, 2011, robbery of Express Lane Food Store in Floral City; and the robbery of Brad's Food and Gas in Inverness on February 25, 2011. During each of the robberies, both individuals brandished firearms and demanded money from the clerks at gunpoint.

This case was investigated by the ATF, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer L. Peresie.

It is another case prosecuted as a part of the Department of Justice's "Project Safe Neighborhoods" program - a nationwide, gun-violence reduction strategy led by ATF. United States Attorney Robert E. O'Neill, along with Virginia O'Brien, Special Agent in Charge, ATF, is coordinating the Project Safe Neighborhoods effort here in the Middle District of Florida in cooperation with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.
