Second Federal Firearms Conviction Sends Kansas City Man To Prison for 8 Years
KANSAS CITY, KAN. – A second federal firearms conviction will send a Kansas City, Kan., man to federal prison for eight years, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.
Darrius M. Freeman, 23, Kansas City, Kan., was sentenced to a total of 96 months in federal prison. He pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. In his plea, Freeman admitted that on July 31, 2011, police were called to a report of shots fired near the Speedway gas station at 47th and Parallel Parkway. Officers stopped a white convertible in which Freeman was a passenger. In the car, they found a loaded 9 mm Ruger pistol with the serial number obliterated. At the time, Freeman was prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm because of prior felony convictions on drug charges and fleeing arrest.
Grissom commended the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department, the ATF and Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Morehead for their work on the case.
