PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO OVER 8 YEARS IN PRISON ON GUN AND DRUG CHARGES
Greenbelt, Maryland – Chief U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow sentenced Dana Vincent McGriff, Jr., age 30, of New Carrollton, Maryland, today to 100 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute heroin and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Richard Marianos of the ATF - Washington D.C. Field Division; and Chief Mark A. Magaw of the Prince George's County Police Department.
According to McGriff's guilty plea, on July 21, 2011, law enforcement learned that McGriff would be in the parking lot of a Hyattsville shopping center to sell a large quantity of heroin. Based on that information, law enforcement established surveillance in the area and saw McGriff arrive at the shopping center, get out of his car and into a grey Jaguar sedan parked nearby. A short time later, McGriff got out of the Jaguar and into a brown Chevrolet Camaro, that had been driven into the parking lot. After a few moments, McGriff got out of the Camaro, carrying a black plastic bag, and got back into the Jaguar. Law enforcement moved in and arrested McGriff. The black bag was found to contain approximately 480 grams of heroin and a digital scale.
Later that day, law enforcement executed a search warrant at McGriff's apartment and recovered an additional 15 grams of heroin, nine grams of cocaine, a small amount of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, including cutting agents and zip lock bags. Agents also recovered a loaded .380 caliber semiautomatic pistol from the bedroom closet.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF-led HIDTATask Force and the Prince George's County Police Department, which is a member of the HIDTAHIDTA Task Force, for their work in the investigation. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant United States Attorney Steven E. Swaney, who prosecuted the case.
