19 – year old Pleads Guilty to Illegal Possession of Firearm

A man who illegally possessed a firearm pled guilty June 21, 2012, in federal court in Sioux City.

Nickolas Beck, 19, from Eldora, Iowa, was convicted of illegal possession of a firearm.

At the plea hearing, Beck admitted that on April 3, 2012, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, he possessed a .22 caliber revolver. Beck further admitted to previously being convicted of willful injury causing bodily injury on August 9, 2010, in the Iowa District Court for Webster County.

Sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after a presentence report is prepared. Beck remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. Beck faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a special assessment of $100, and three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

This case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by the Fort Dodge Police Department, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
