KC Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Illegal Firearm

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — David M. Ketchmark, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Kansas City, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court today for illegally possessing a firearm.

Alfred J. Walker, 55, of Kansas City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs to 15 years in federal prison without parole. Walker was sentenced as an armed career criminal due to his prior felony convictions.

On Jan. 11, 2012, Walker pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Walker was initially arrested for burglary on March 11, 2011, when a couple saw him leaving their house carrying a chandelier and a Sears & Roebuck 12–gauge pump action shotgun that belonged to them. They confronted Walker about the theft and Walker set down the items and tried to leave. A scuffle ensued between Walker and one of the residents, which was broken up by a police officer patrolling the area.

Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a felony to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. Walker has three prior felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance and four prior felony convictions for burglary.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Davids. It was investigated by the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
