Oran Man Sentenced to 300 Months on Federal Charges
The United States Attorney’s Office announced today that an Oran, Missouri was sentenced on federal charges.

Harris, age 51, was sentenced to 300 months on one felony count each of Interference With Commerce by Threat or Violence, Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Crime of Violence, and Felon in Possession of Ammunition. He appeared before United States District Judge Carol E. Jackson.
On January 28, 2010, at around 8:30 p.m., Harris entered the Amerimart convenience store in Benton, Missouri wearing a Halloween mask and armed with a semi–automatic pistol. A clerk was in the store along with two customers. Harris ordered the clerk to give him the money from the store cash register and then fired a shot from the handgun into the ceiling. Harris then robbed the clerk of approximately one thousand five hundred thirty–three dollars and fled. Authorities responded to the scene and recovered the spent ammunition cartridge from the floor. Agents for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives later determined that the ammunition casing was from a 9 mm round of Sellier and Bellot brand ammunition.
Officers developed information leading to Harris’s arrest. During questioning, Harris admitted robbing the Amerimart store and using a 9 mm handgun to commit the robbery.
Harris had previously been convicted of several felonies, including Second Degree Robbery, Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicles, Burglary and Receiving Stolen Property.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney Keith D. Sorrell handled the prosecution for the Government.
