Guilty Plea Entered in Firearms Case

A Jackson County, Ill., man pled guilty, on April 19, 2012, to a two-count indictment charging Stealing Firearms from a Federal Licensee and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today.

Michael Shane Satterwhite, a/k/a Shady Shane, 32, of Murphysboro, pled guilty to the two count indictment charging him with Stealing Firearms from a Federal Licensee and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. At his plea hearing, Satterwhite admitted that, on November 25, 2011, he broke into B & B Guns and Ammo in Murphysboro. Satterwhite stole two firearms. Because he is a convicted felon, Satterwhite is prohibited from possessing any firearm.

The offenses carry a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, 3 years’ supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Satterwhite is currently being held without bond pending his July 26, 2012, sentencing.

The investigation was conducted by the Jackson County Sheriffs Office, Murphysboro Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

The case is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Amanda A. Robertson for prosecution.
