Baltimore Felon Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Possessing Ammunition
Baltimore, Maryland — U.S. District judge J. Frederick Motz sentenced Isaac Lamont Edwards, age 27, of Baltimore, today to 15 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of ammunition. Judge Motz enhanced Edwards’ sentence upon finding that he is an armed career criminal based on three previous drug and violent crime convictions.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Debbie D. Bullock of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives – Baltimore Field Division; Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein; and Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III.
According to his plea agreement, on April 1, 2010 a Baltimore Police officer stopped a car driven by Edwards for a traffic violation. The officer smelled marijuana as he approached the car. Edwards was arrested and a 9mm semi–automatic handgun was recovered from the vehicle, loaded with five rounds of .380 caliber ammunition and one round of 9mm ammunition. Also seized were a bag containing marijuana, a hand–rolled cigar containing marijuana and $1,041. Edwards was previously convicted of a felony and was prohibited from possessing ammunition.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the ATF, Baltimore Police Department, Assistant Baltimore City State’s Attorney Andrew Kowalczyk and the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office for their work in the investigation and prosecution. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Special Assistant United States Attorney Christopher M. Mason, a cross–designated Baltimore City Assistant State’s Attorney assigned to Exile cases, who prosecuted the case.
