Bloomfield Man Sentenced to 77 Months for Federal Firearms Conviction
ALBUQUERQUE — U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales announced that earlier today Domingo Castillo, 33, of Bloomfield, N.M., was sentenced to 77 months of imprisonment to be followed by three years of supervised release for his felon in possession of a firearm conviction.
Castillo was charged in a two–count indictment that was filed on May 25, 2011, alleging that he unlawfully possessed a firearm on March 8 and 9, 2011 in San Juan County, and that he knowingly possessed a stolen firearm. According to the indictment, Castillo had previously been convicted of possession of a controlled substance in the Second Judicial District Court.
On October 13, 2011, Castillo pled guilty to count one of the indictment charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to the plea agreement, Castillo admitted that on March 8, 2011, he knowingly possessed a Glock, model 19, 9x19 caliber pistol. Castillo further admitted that the firearm was stolen and that he was not allowed to possess firearms.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Count 2 of the indictment was dismissed after Castillo was sentenced.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Bloomfield Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynn W.Y. Wang.
