During Basic Training when will I hear from my child?

Trainees may not be contacted during BMT - this is an intense 8.5-week training program. Trainees are required to send their address to their family or significant others their first week of training. You may write letters to your trainee, and in fact, it is encouraged. Basic training is stressful and positive letters from home are great morale boosters. Trainees do not have access to: the Internet, e-mail, or incoming phone calls during the training cycle. Trainees may be contacted in the case of family emergencies such as:

You should contact your local Red Cross agency office to make contact with a trainee; you will not be able to contact the trainee directly. American Red Cross http://www.redcross.org.

To contact the BMT Reception Center, please phone: 210-671-2593.

For more information on this subject, you can chat with one of our online advisers or click here to contact us and get in touch with your local recruiter.

Can I visit my family member if they enlist?

An Air Force job is like any other job: People work normal hours and go home at the end of the day. Once on the job, Airmen have specific tasks they must complete, but otherwise visitors can come and go as they please. However, during Basic Training and Technical School, visitation is limited due to mandatory schedules.

Basic Training Visitation:
Graduation week is the ONLY time basic trainees are allowed to have visitors. Visitation will be Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Please see the following page for exact visitation times.

You are required to sign-in and request visitation at the times listed here.

Please note: You are not permitted to park in the training squadron parking lots.

Airmen may NOT be available for visitation during all visiting hours due to training requirements. Every effort will be made to allow you to spend the maximum allowable time together, however, training requirements must always take precedence. Also, Base Liberty and Town Pass are privileges that must be EARNED by airmen and can be denied AT ANY TIME for disciplinary reasons. We appreciate your understanding of the importance for this.

Technical Training School Visitation:
Visitation while students are attending Technical Training School is not limited as far as the friends and family visiting. The following guidelines do pertain to the first few weeks:

For the first two weeks, Airmen cannot leave base.
During weeks three and four, Airmen can go off base with visitors, but they must be in uniform.
After week four is complete the Airman is not required to wear uniform off duty and can visit during any off-duty period.
Note: All visitations are based on Airmen progressing normally with their training.

Permanent Station:
Once you are stationed at your base it is very much like any other job. You can have visitors at any time. Like anyone else, Airmen have a job to do and must be there for the required duty hours.
