Duluth Man Sentenced for Distributing Narcotics
MINNEAPOLIS – Today in federal court, a 35-year-old Duluth man was sentenced for distributing narcotics. United States District Judge David S. Doty sentenced Jeremy Dionne Norvell to 188 months in prison on one count of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone, oxymorphone, cocaine, and marijuana. Norvell, who was charged in a second superseding indictment on February 6, 2012, pleaded guilty on February 17, 2012.
In his plea agreement, Norvell admitted that in 2011, he distributed at least eight hundred 40-milligram Opana pills, which he obtained from his co-conspirator sources of supply. He agreed that the Opana pills contained oxymorphone and that he did not have a prescription for Opana. Norvell's illegal Opana transactions included direct or indirect sales to one or more government informants working on behalf of law enforcement. On June 8, 2011, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Norvell's apartment. They found a Ziploc bag containing a total of 343 Opana pills and $640 in a jacket in his closet, as well as $4,000 between the mattress and box spring of his bed. Norvell admitted that he possessed these Opana pills with the intent to distribute them.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Duluth Police Department, the Lake Superior Drug and Gang Task Force, and the U.S. ATF. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Allen A. Slaughter.
