Felon in Possession of a Firearm Sentenced

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Wood, South Dakota, man charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm was sentenced on April 23, 2012, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Paul Joseph, age 60, was sentenced to 12 months’ probation, a $250 fine, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Joseph was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 12, 2011, and pled guilty to the charge on January 31, 2012.

In September 1991, Joseph was convicted of a felony in the District of South Dakota. This conviction stems from an incident on or about the 11th day of June, 2011, when Joseph was arrested for driving under the influence. At the time of the arrest, Joseph was in knowing possession of a Ruger Model C9, 9mm Hi–Point pistol.

The investigation was conducted by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers.
