ATF Announces Completion of Police Training 2011 Law Enforcement Officer Safety Summit

LOS ANGELES – John A. Torres, Special Agent in Charge of the Los Angeles Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), announced the completion of the 2011 Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Awareness Training. The conference which was sponsored by ATF, the United States Attorney’s Office, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center downtown.

The free training provided practical instruction that included;

This free training was a response to the Attorney Generals initiative in March of 2011 to combat attacks on law enforcement personal, which has been on a steady increase since 2009, Torres said. The overall response to the training was very favorable and it provided the law enforcement officers that are at the frontline of protecting the communities another tool in combating violent crime.

The 2011 Officer Safety and Awareness Training were opened to all federal, state, county, and city, Line Officers/Detectives/Prosecutors from law enforcement agencies in the region. This year’s training was attended by over 1,400 law enforcement from California and included law enforcement members from Nevada and Arizona. Presented by the Department of Justice, the Bureau of Justice Assistance, The International Association of Police Chiefs, The United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, ATF, LAPD, and the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.
