AES Response Message 855
[Support Center Home]

Q: If I get an 855 Verify Message, what do I do?

A: Let's say you receive the following message in your AES Response:

    (855-LINE1-VERIFY) FOREIGN ORIGIN VERSUS IN-TRANSIT

This is what you should do:

    1. You have indicated that the goods reported in line item 1 are of foreign origin.
(NOTE: Although we use "LINE1" in this example, the verify message may pertain to another line. For example, if the verify message pertains to line item 2, then "LINE2" will be indicated. )

    2. Verify that the goods reported in line item 1 are actually foreign.

    3. If the goods are not foreign:

    • Retrieve the shipment.
    • Edit the line item section.
    • Select "Domestic" from the pull-down menu.
    • Click "View EEI."
    • Click "Submit EEI."

    4. Verify that the goods reported in line item 1 are actually being exported and that they are not traveling "in-transit" through the United States en route to another country under an in-bond movement.

    5. If the goods are traveling in-transit through the United States, these goods are not to be filed in AES and you must delete the shipment.

    6. If this is an export of foreign origin goods and NOT an in-transit shipment, no further action is necessary.
