Camp Statement on Passage of Resolution Disapproving the Obama Administration’s Attempt to Undermine Welfare Work Requirements
Thursday, September 20, 2012

Washington, DC – Today, Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) made the following statement after the House voted to disapprove of the Obama Administration’s attempt to undermine the welfare work requirements.  The vote was 250 to 164, with 19 Democrats joining 231 Republicans in rejecting the Administration’s attempts to circumvent Congress and undermine the critical work requirements for welfare recipients.

“The House has taken an important step today to stop the Obama Administration from waiving the requirement that welfare recipients work in order to receive benefits.  Not only does the Administration not have the authority to waive welfare work requirements, it is bad policy to do so.  The welfare work requirement has led to more jobs and paychecks and less poverty and welfare dependence.  The Senate should not leave for the campaign until they have voted on this legislation.”
