specific nav links Home News Preserve America Initiative Featured on June 4 Live Satellite Telecast Preserve America Initiative Featured on June 4 Live Satellite Telecast For more information, contact Bruce Milhans at (202) 606-8513 or bmilhans@achp.gov The President's Preserve America initiative will be discussed during the June 4, 2003, National Association of Regional Council (NARC)/Economic Development Administration live satellite telecast. The segment on Preserve America will feature Interior Secretary Gale A. Norton, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development David A. Sampson, and Advisory Council on Historic Preservation Chairman John L. Nau, III. These are the agencies charged by the White House to implement the Preserve America initiative. The Preserve America segment will be part of the hour-long program titled "Three Rural Economic Development Strategies." The Preserve America information will commence with an excerpt from First Lady Laura Bush's announcement of the program. It will then feature live appearances and interactive discussions with the panel. It will conclude with a case study video highlighting a three-State, multiple jurisdiction and partnership, heritage tourism effort that has received Economic Development Administration funding called "Southern Passages: The Atlantic Heritage Coast." The telecast will be available to any facility capable of downlinking on a KU Band or C Band capacity. Many government agencies and offices, public facilities, and colleges and universities have satellite reception capability. The signal will begin to be broadcast about 2:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday, June 4, 2003, with the program commencing at 3:00 p.m. and ending at 4:02 p.m. U.S. downlink locations can be obtained from the NARC Web site at www.narc.org/whathot.html.
