Lamborn Calls for an End to Washington Bailouts

Rejects latest union-driven bailout bill

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) issued the following statement after the passage of H.R. 1586, a state bailout bill.

“I would rather be back in Colorado today meeting with constituents and hearing from them on ways to grow our economy and reduce our national debt. Instead, Speaker Pelosi called Congress back to Washington to vote for another misguided bailout bill.

“Democrats suggest this bill will temporarily “save” unionized, state government jobs.  But what they won’t tell you is that the $9.6 billion in permanent tax hikes they would impose to “pay for” that extension of stimulus would destroy over 141,000 private sector jobs.  That would be on top of the 2.5 million private sector jobs already eliminated in the wake of their 2009 stimulus plan.

“We cannot continue to take money from small businesses and families in order to save government jobs. To turn this economy around, Washington must cut taxes and promote policies to grow jobs in the private sector.”– Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

Note:The estimate that this latest Democrat “stimulus” bill will cause the loss of 141,000 jobs was derived by using the economic model developed by Dr. Christina Romer, the former Chair of President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisors.
