Rep. Waxman Calls on Secretary Shinseki to Intervene to Expedite Work on Building 209 on West LA VA Campus
Today Rep. Henry A. Waxman sent a letter to Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki urging him to personally intervene to expedite work on Building 209 on the West Los Angeles VA campus, which will provide long-term therapeutic services to homeless veterans. Although construction was expected to begin in June 2012, the contract for renovation has not yet been awarded and project deadlines have expired.

Waxman Leads Effort Urging European Union to Designate Hezbollah as a Terrorist Organization
Today, over two hundred and fifty members of Congress sent letters urging the President and Ministers of the European Union (EU) to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Hezbollah has a long and deadly history of operating in Europe to finance, plan, recruit, and carry out terrorist plots. The letters were initiated following the deadly attack on Israeli tourists in Bulgaria in July and an attempted Hezbollah-sponsored attack in Cyprus.
Ranking Member Waxman Releases Reports on Benefits of Affordable Care Act in Los Angeles County
Today, Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman released a new report on the impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in Los Angeles County. The report describes the number of Los Angeles County residents who are receiving new benefits and consumer protections provided by the historic health care reform law.
Rep. Waxman Requests Suspension of Efforts to Close Santa Monica Post Office
Today, Rep. Henry A. Waxman sent a letter to Shoshana Grove, Secretary of the Postal Regulatory Commission, appealing the decision by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to close the Santa Monica Post Office. In the letter Rep. Waxman states that USPS did not follow proper procedure on rules governing the post office closure by failing to provide adequate notice to the community, not considering the impact on the community, and failing to notify the community of fiscal impact of the closure.

Waxman and Ways and Means Subcommittee Ranking Member Pete Stark released a report they requested of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) that calls on Medicare Special Needs Plans (SNPs) that serve dual eligible beneficiaries to provide better and more standardized reporting on quality and performance measures and increased transparency of care coordination models.
