AESWebLink Goes On-Line to Streamline Export Data Entry
Census Announces a Major new AESDirect B2G Initiative To Link The Exporting Community to the U.S. Customs AES System
Washington, DC July 25, 2000
Announcing AESWebLink to Integrate Your Internet or Desktop Application with AESDirect
In October 1999 the U.S. Census Bureau, Department of Commerce, launched AESDirect, a free Internet SED filing service. "Since its first day, the service has been working without a hitch rapidly attracting the attention of freight forwarders and exporters. As of today, over 1300 companies have registered to use AESDirect," said Robert Foley, President of Flagship Customs Services, Inc. (FCS), the company that developed and operates the service for the Census Bureau. "The Census Bureau is extremely pleased with the operation and industry response to AESDirect. We intend to improve the system with enhancements to make it even more effective for the U.S. export trade community," said Chuck Woods, Assistant Division Chief for Data Collection in the Foreign Trade Division at the Census Bureau.
With AESDirect service firmly established and growing, the Census Bureau is announcing the introduction AESWebLink, a major service upgrade designed to make it easier for companies to integrate their own computer systems with AESDirect.
AESWebLink will enable users of Internet and Desktop Windows applications to pass their export (SED) data into AESDirect on a real time basis and eliminate double entry of data.
AESWebLink is intended as a plug-in capability for sharing information between an AESDirect certified Internet or Windows Desktop application and AESDirect, streamlining electronic export data capture and information flow, and reducing data entry burdens. "AESWebLink is a perfect example of how to use the interoperability and pervasiveness of the Internet, and is a ground breaking example of how to use the Internet to deliver first class B2G application services," said. Harvey Monk, Jr., Chief, Foreign Trade Division at the Census Bureau.
Two companies assisted FCS and Census to test AESWebLink; these companies will have their trade applications certified as AESWebLink compliant. An additional twenty companies have also applied to have their applications certifed as being AESWebLink Enabled. With the introduction of AESWebLink any company using an AESWebLink Enabled application will have an immediate real-time transaction link to AESDirect.
The Census Bureau and FCS are looking for additional companies interested in linking their export trade application to AESWebLink. For further information, contact Bob Foley on 301-562-7790 ext. 12, or submit an on-line application at AESDirect.gov and click on Developers Center.
