8/4/2012 - NEW CASTLE AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, DELAWARE -- Major General Hugh T. Broomall, Special Assistant to the Director, Air National Guard, and ANG Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force, Manpower and Reserve Affairs, will retire this Sunday August 5 from the ANG after 45 years of service, all with the Delaware ANG.
Lieutenant General Harry M. (Bud) Wyatt III, Director, Air National Guard, and Maj. Gen. Francis D. Vavala, Adjutant General, Delaware National Guard, will officiate at the retirement ceremony. Attending will be senior leaders of the Delaware National Guard, invited civilian officials, members of Gen. Broomall's family and other invited guests.

As the Special Assistant to the Director, ANG, Gen. Broomall is responsible for strategy development, state and federal liaison, inter-agency coordination, and special studies supporting the 106,000 ANG members nationwide.
General Broomall initially enlisted in the Delaware ANG in March 1967, and earned his commission as a Second Lieutenant in November 1974. He attended the DoD Armed Forces Intelligence Officer Course at Lowry AFB, Colo. and upon graduation returned to New Castle, Del. where he served as the full-time Air Intelligence Officer in the Delaware ANG. Gen. Broomall was designated as the Military Airlift Command's Intelligence Officer of the Year. Gen. Broomall has commanded the 166th Support Group, Delaware ANG, and was selected by Delaware's U.S. Senator William V. Roth to serve in 1997 a member of the Congressional Fellowship Program and was a primary military staff officer supporting the United States Senate North Atlantic Treaty Organization Observer Group. Gen. Broomall also served as the National Guard Bureau U.S. Property and Fiscal Officer for Delaware. Prior to his current assignment, Gen. Broomall served as the Deputy Adjutant General, Delaware National Guard.
General Broomall is a Wilmington native and graduated from Salesianum High School, and attended Wilmington University earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Management in 1985, and Master of Science in Public Administration and Master of Science in Human Resource Management in 1996. He resides with his wife Christy in Newark, Del., and they have three children and two grandchildren.
The Delaware Air National Guard is a reserve component of the U.S. Air Force with 1,100 positions under command of the Governor of Delaware, or the President of the United States when mobilized. The Delaware ANG has been serving Delaware and the United States of America since 1946.
