For the second year in a row, Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has served as honorary host of the Missouri Business Conference at the University of Central Missouri, bringing together successful small businesses owners with students and other aspiring entrepreneurs. More than 250 business leaders and entrepreneurs took part in this year’s gathering, networking with others and gaining valuable information to help their businesses grow. During five panel discussions, participants heard from experts on topics including Planning to Start a Business, Generating Revenue, Targeting Revenues, Being Prepared and Networked, and Increasing Processes and Decreasing Costs.

House passes Hartzler's Hallowed Grounds Act as part of veterans bill

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler’s Hallowed Grounds Act has been passed by the U.S. House as part of a much larger bill to improve several programs for veterans under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. The Hallowed Grounds Act will prohibit an individual who is classified as a Tier III sex offender under the Sex Offender Registry and Notification Act, and has been sentenced to life in prison for that crime, from being buried at a veterans or national cemetery. A Tier III sex offender is one whose offenses against a child might include the crimes of aggravated sexual abuse or sexual abuse and abusive sexual contact.

Hartzler hosts Defending Our Defenders Listening Session to learn more about impact of potential defense cuts
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4), championing the cause of national defense and desiring to gain knowledge from the people most impacted by sequestration, hosted a Defending Our Defenders Listening Session at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Hartzler was joined by Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-2) and Congressional aides who listened to ideas from concerned citizens, military veterans, small business owners, local associations, and other interested parties about the impact of potential defense cuts.

Hartzler honors Sedalia couple as 2012 Angels in Adoption
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has honored Jim and Doctor Susan Waldo from Sedalia as 2012 Angels in Adoption, recognizing their outstanding advocacy of adoption issues and their personal involvement in bettering child welfare. The Waldos have provided a loving home for eight children, four of whom are adopted.

Hartzler and House pass "No More Solyndras Act"

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) and the U.S. House have approved the “No More Solyndras Act” to ensure American taxpayers are never again forced to pay hundreds of millions of dollars into failed energy loan programs. The bill is named for Solyndra - a California solar panel manufacturer that went bankrupt after getting a $535 million federal loan guarantee.

Hartzler and House pass legislation to prioritize sequestration concerns
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) and her U.S. House colleagues are taking action to prioritize concerns about the sequestration process, which kicks in in just over 100 days. They have approved the National Security and Job Protection Act, which would help offset the cost of sequestration’s automatic across-the-board cuts in spending for national defense and important domestic programs.

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has issued the following statement on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks: “Today marks the 11th anniversary of that horrific day – September 11, 2001 – when America came under attack from terrorists intent on destroying this country. In the days following those devastating attacks, Americans were unified, drawing strength from prayer and from each other. We were determined to not let freedom be snuffed out. As a result of the attacks, many answered the call to defend our country. While these acts of terrorism tested our strength as a nation, they could not stifle the greatness of the American people or our hopes for a bright tomorrow.

Hartzler statement on poll showing voters want sequestration resolved before November
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has released the following statement in response to a Harris Interactive survey of 4,000 likely voters in Missouri and four other states impacted by sequestration cuts: “This poll shows 80 percent of voters in Missouri and four other states believe an alternative to sequestration must be found before the November elections. The U.S. House has already put forward a responsible plan I supported to keep our country safe by replacing cuts to the military with domestic spending cuts and reforms. Unfortunately, Senate Leader Harry Reid refuses to allow the Senate to vote on this common sense idea. This must change and these looming defense cuts must be stopped ...
