House Democratic Whip Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) issued the following statement today on the tragic death of Senator Paul Wellstone (D-Minn.) and his wife, Sheila, and their daughter, Marcia, in a plane crash today:
“On behalf of my family and my constituents, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family of Paul and Sheila Wellstone. I am devastated by their loss and will miss them terribly.
“Paul and Sheila were partners who had the courage of their convictions, who fought every day for working families. Their passion and commitment to social justice was extraordinary -- they realized that caring for the neediest enhanced the welfare of us all.”
“I hope it is a comfort to the Wellstone family and staff that so many
people appreciate their leadership, mourn their loss, and are praying for them
at this sad time.”
