Since the 1960's, affirmative action laws have worked to remedy longstanding race and gender discrimination. These laws have helped women and minorities gain the economic footing that has been historically denied them simply because of their gender or the color of their skin. It is unfortunate that the Supreme Court did not see this as an opportunity to address the civil rights issues in this case. We must now be prepared to fight the opponents of gender and racial equality as they campaign across the country.
