Bullet What's NewFY2010 GUIDELINES FOR BROWNFIELDS JOB TRAINING GRANTS - The guidelines are posted on the national Brownfields and Land Revitalization website under Apply for Funding . The proposal deadline is December 1, 2009.

Brownfields Job Training grants provide funding to governmental entities and nonprofit organizations to recruit, train, and place local unemployed and under-employed, predominantly low-income and minority residents, with the skills needed to acquire full-time, sustainable careers in the green economy and brownfields redevelopment work. Brownfields Job Training Grants help residents take advantage of the jobs created by the assessment, cleanup and redevelopment of brownfields in their communities. Eligible applicants can apply for up to $200,000. The project period for these grants is 2 years.

Please note there are significant changes to the Proposal Guidelines for Brownfields Job Training Grants in FY2010. EPA encourages applicants to read the guidelines carefully before applying. A conference call to address the FY10 grant proposal guidelines is scheduled:

Brownfields Success Story

Old Santa Fe RailyardSanta Fe Railyard TodaySanta Fe , New Mexico - The citizens of Santa Fe partnered to create the Railyard Master Plan and direct the sustainable redevelopment of an essentially abandoned 50-acre railyard site. Their vision honored the Railyard's history and engaged the culture, arts, and landscape of the city. Contaminants, consisting of lead, other metals, as well as petroleum and petroleum products, in the soil and groundwater were characterized through funding from an EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant and Targeted Brownfields Assessment. The New Mexico Environment Department also provided assessment services. A grand opening celebration was held recently to herald this successful blending of live-in artist studios, galleries, museums, farmers' market, retail shops, office space, and over thirteen acres of open space with a park, plaza, and pedestrian promenade. Trains continue to arrive and depart from the depot. The Railyard practices water harvesting and will use other innovative, environmentally responsible systems.
