Ramstein’s Kamperman picked for fellowship

Ramstein graduate Forrest Kamperman, who teamed with Aryan von Eicken to finish second in last fall’s European tennis championships, has been selected as one of 20 members of the Brown Fellows Program for the Class of 2012-2016, according to a news release from the James Graham Brown Foundation.

According to the Foundation, Brown Fellows, who receive full tuition and room and board for four years along with funding for international travel and study, are selected on the basis of “scholastic attainment, intellectual leadership, visionary thinking and exemplary community involvement.”

The Fellows, evenly divided between the University of Louisville and Centre College in Danville, Ky., are to depart next month for Istanbul to study the economics, cultural and historical aspects of Turkey, according to the news release.

Kampermann, a two-year Ramstein team captain who along with Von Eicken dropped a memorable 6-0, 4-6, 6-7 (10-12) decision to Sergio Valdez and Shotaro Shobu of International School of Brussels in last year’s European doubles final, plans to play tennis at Centre, a D-III school, according to his father, Randy.
