Rangel Honors The Service Of Rep. Gabby Giffords

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Charles Rangel released the following statement on the resignation of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (AZ-8) on January 25, 2012:

“Although I am sad to see Rep. Gabrielle Giffords leave Congress, I am grateful to have served alongside such an outstanding Colleague, and whom I considered as the epitome of a true public servant.  A loving wife and devoted Representative of Arizona’s 8th District, Gabby will forever be remembered in Congress as one of its most kind and amiable Member.

It is rare to observe rising stars accomplish so much in such a short a time as Gabby has. She was a champion of energy independence, border security and the needs of veterans and their families.  I commend her tremendous work on military and veterans issues.  I would also like to commend Gabby's dedication to energy independence; her solar energy initiatives are a testament of the innovative leadership she brought to Congress.

I salute Gabby for her courage and perseverance in the face of the horrible tragedy that took place a little over one year ago.  Her indomitable strength has inspired the nation. We wish you a speedy recovery and hope that you will soon be able to return to public service. May you and your loving husband, Captain Mark Kelly, know that the American people are cheering for you."
